Well its Friday again… Monday was windiest and wettest! So here’s the pattern for the week as we saw it and the above chart confirms it.
The morning breeze has been good, even at 8am when it blows from the SW.
Before midday it’s been swinging to the North and blowing directly into the Club.
By mid-afternoon it swings to the NE and comes in with quite a surge – even yesterday it hit about 20 knots, blew a door off the upstairs bar and then proceeded to rain with rain drops as big as buckets!
After the rain the breeze settled down to a nice 12 knots and remained until evening when it clocked back to the West and faded. Still a great day but the drop in temperatures and the rain makes a splash proof windbreaker a necessity – you’ll be surprised how cold it gets!
I’m going to have to splurge and get one of the Musto smocks – they breath! The trouble here is that you get cold, you put a breaker on and then you sweat inside – and stink at the end of the day!! The breathable Musto’s are not exactly cheap but do the trick – the water STAYS out, even your sweat will pass through the membrane. NICE!
Generally speaking, the best times for sailing over the weekend will be,
Mornings and around 3pm with a slight lull around lunch time!
Currently, (9am) it’s about 5-10 knots Westerlie… Get ready for a great weekends sailing at Changi Sailing Club in Singapore. I must thank James Cole alias Bladerunner, for sending me the BBC screen and inspiring this idea which many of you have said is a good idea!
