The Elysian… Nacra 570

Nacra 570

I received a bit of interest on the 570 post so here’s another look at it. Seemingly there’s a bit of interest in go-fast-no-fuss platforms which the 570 certainly is. Rigs in minutes and rips big boat speed!

The current 570 in our fleet belongs to Henry who’s other boat in Bali was a Nacra 5.0. Now Henry did set a ‘season record’ on the 5.0 – try 21.3 knots on a 5.0! Okay so it was blowing a good 25 knots and there was a a big wave involved but 21 knots on a 5.0 is a LOT!

But after a season on the 570 well the difference is HUGE so the little 5.0 no longer presents a challenge and has made way for the 570. Next season we expect that 21.3 to grow into a whole new number as the 570 will certainly be able to stretch its legs.

Bali is one of the world’s premium surfing spots… maybe it’ll be a top sailing spot soon. Currently there are 2 Nacras in Blai, Henry’s 5.0 and a Nacra 20 (super kool) and soon the 570. Where henry sails is like a huge bath tub. Go out beyond the reefs edge and you’ll get the waves, stay within the reef and you’ve got the flattest clearest water imaginable! Ideal – you bet! How come Henry’s so lucky? Check out, and then you’ll know. Its a fantastic villa arrangement. The compound has 26 villas but the intriguing bit is that when your there… you’d swear you’re alone. Each villa has its own pool and garden, so you can really shut the world out. Wicked!

I’m going to keep a weather eye out and when its blowing in Bali… I’ll be off, so at least you know where I’ll be!

About prosailing

In Southeast Asia a long time and all the while, sailing cats. But the cat love-affair began when I finished building my first catamaran at age 15... "never again". After building 2 more Formula 16 cats in Malaysia it's really 'never again'. Now we have a large fleet of high-tech speed machines including the Nacra 20 Carbon. Then we decided to spread our wings a little more and imported the Corsair Dash 750. Now we are well on the way to establishing a Coastal One Design Dash Class. As a test bed, we had 4 Dashes take part in the Neptune Regatta and now the plans are rolling out.
