Speed machine… 570

Good thing about modern electronics – they tell you how fast you go so that you can SHOW others. Henry had his Velocitek strapped onto the 570 during the Cat Nationals in Singapore and well the best reading was 20.3 knots over a 5 hour period. It’s interesting to have a look at the speed sheet i.e. hook the Velocitek up to the PC and download all the info’. Nice.

Of course we all like to know how fast we’re going but tactical electronics can do a lot more for you than just speed. I like to use one when tuning the boats up because often there is no sparring partner! Using the speed and angle, you can instantaneously see if the changes you make to the boat are in the right direction or not.

Henry’s 570 peaked at 20.3 knots and I wouldn’t be surprised if that was on the two-sail reach out to the end of the reclaimed land – that was a GOOD ride, especially for the loooong waterline boats! THanks Henry for the stat’s and look forward to seeing what a difference some real wind will make!

About prosailing

In Southeast Asia a long time and all the while, sailing cats. But the cat love-affair began when I finished building my first catamaran at age 15... "never again". After building 2 more Formula 16 cats in Malaysia it's really 'never again'. Now we have a large fleet of high-tech speed machines including the Nacra 20 Carbon. Then we decided to spread our wings a little more and imported the Corsair Dash 750. Now we are well on the way to establishing a Coastal One Design Dash Class. As a test bed, we had 4 Dashes take part in the Neptune Regatta and now the plans are rolling out.
