An old A Cat never dies!

A Class

It’s been a quiet few months for me on the sailing front but I’ve finally managed to finish the old A Class. Now she looks good again!. Of course Glen Ashby, Victorian Sportsman of the Year might be a little surprised! Why?

Well, it was the platform that he won his first World Championship on! She’s not new by any means but still a flyer! For those who don’t know, Glen is the leader of a new breed of cat sailor and in the last year alone he’s got a silver at the Olympics, won the F18 Worlds and won the A Class worlds (again).

When we first went to look at the Taipan before bringing it into Singapore, Glen was the nice guy who showed us how to sail on the lake in Bendigo. At the same time we were sailing the Taipan, Glen was testing yet another A Class. When the first couple of Taipans made our shores, Glen would pop by ocassionally on his way to the European regatta circuit.

Apart from being a most afable young chap, world champion, sail maker…I like him most because he’s very handy on a Ducati motorcycle and owns a ‘collector’ piece 996! The last time I saw Glen at CSC he was on the back wheel of my Ducati heading out the gate – kool! So there you have it, lots of fast cat sailors enjoy motorcycles so if you want to sail faster – join the crowd!

Back to the A Class. Well the new livery is on and ‘Blue Lizard Sports’ is now the slimmer version of ‘Blue LIzard alias the Blue Bus’ so there’s a matching pair now and don’t confuse them! Blue Lizard Sports will be raced in the next few series but we are looking for a good home for it. If you know of anyone who wants a bargain A Class, World Champio boat please let us know…

It is a real baragin considering the performance…

About prosailing

In Southeast Asia a long time and all the while, sailing cats. But the cat love-affair began when I finished building my first catamaran at age 15... "never again". After building 2 more Formula 16 cats in Malaysia it's really 'never again'. Now we have a large fleet of high-tech speed machines including the Nacra 20 Carbon. Then we decided to spread our wings a little more and imported the Corsair Dash 750. Now we are well on the way to establishing a Coastal One Design Dash Class. As a test bed, we had 4 Dashes take part in the Neptune Regatta and now the plans are rolling out.
