Now what could be better than having your boat tied up in your backyard? Having two boats tied up! Maybe but the 28R is a good place to start… just the right size, big enough to cruise, comfortable enough to sleep on yet enough ‘R’ to put the R into Racing!
This is a little more of the ‘secret’ location where we tested the Corsair C28RS, looks nice doesn’t it and we can tell you… There is nothing like waking up, grabbing a coffee and then wander out the back and onto the boat – ahh bliss!
This nice little hideaway is located just south of Pattaya, Thailand and really is a very nice development. Other parts of the world have waterfront housing down to a fine art but somehow SEA has been lacking! Well Singapore now has Sentosa Cove but unless you’ve got a really big budget, it won’t be possible. Malaysia has things like the Sepang Goldcoast which has really nice villas right over the Malacca Straits but NO boat berths! Then you have this and, it works very nicely.
Of course the Gulf of Thailand has quite a few regattas to make it even more interesting. The upcoming Tog Of Gulf Regatta and then the Koh Samui Regatta. Not to mention the cruising grounds down towards to the Cambodian border, exotic, you bet!
The Corsair makes for a very handy tool, race it one weekend then cruise the next and it’s still capable of 20 + knots which makes for exciting sailing. Corsairs are also well known for their folding system so that the boats can fit into a regular berth or onto a road trailer for easy hauling in and out of the water. Storing on land does hold a big advantage in reducing maintenance bills!
The Top Of the Gulf Regatta is from 30 April – 4 May and is probably the best regatta in Southeast Asia in that it has all classes – Optimist, Laser, Beach Cats, Ocean Multihulls and Race boats. That’s also a lot of boats on the start line!! We’re preparing for the TOGR and most likely competing on one of the 14 trimarans. If anyone else is interested in taking part, please get in touch. Limited boats are available but we’d have to start making arrangements now.
