HOT NEWS – Carbon 20 pics!!

Its not just a rumour then… here are the first pics of a Carbon 20 and what a wild shape! Well it’s coming from the design board of Melvin & Morelli who are now most famous for a certain super large multihull that will be racing in about 3 weeks time.

The banana daggerboards are awesome, the angular hull even more so! To say it looks like nothing we’ve seen before is true!

The only performance reports that we’ve heard is that it is pretty amazing to sail! There’s so much lift coming from the foils that “it ends up doing a water-wheelie downwind with two guys on the wire and the kite up! So to get the most speed out of it you end up moving your boady weight forward to get the nose down!” – That’s a nice change!

It weighs 170kgs is 6.1m long and spreads more sail area than the 20 One design, which is hardly short on sail power as it is. All the systems will be an evolution from the 20 OD but one can expect the loadings on the platform to be slightly less as the banana foils contribute lift. Lift means reduced drag and HIGHER speeds – thank you Americas Cup and all that Fluid Dynamics testing that the AC programs paid for.

Get my hands on one? CAN’T WAIT!!

About prosailing

In Southeast Asia a long time and all the while, sailing cats. But the cat love-affair began when I finished building my first catamaran at age 15... "never again". After building 2 more Formula 16 cats in Malaysia it's really 'never again'. Now we have a large fleet of high-tech speed machines including the Nacra 20 Carbon. Then we decided to spread our wings a little more and imported the Corsair Dash 750. Now we are well on the way to establishing a Coastal One Design Dash Class. As a test bed, we had 4 Dashes take part in the Neptune Regatta and now the plans are rolling out.
