South Africa…

Team Pro Sail has made South Africa finally, and this has to be sailing Mecca’! Just out of Johannesburg is the Stilbaai Sailing Club located on an expansive lake. The Stilbaai Club is a bit of a haven for multihulls with a lot of trimarans including the M23, Dragonfly and a Corsair 31. Was great to see a bunch of trimarans tethered to the lawn awaiting the weekends activities.

Then we flew into Capetown. Tabletop mountain dominates the skyline and the air pressure at sea level is really impressive. After coming from the doldrums of a non-existant NE Monsoon, it is really refreshing to feel a good stiff cool breeze. We are hoping that it will not be 20 knots in the early morning so that we can have a nice quiet sail on the Smart 40 Tri.

That’s why we’re here!
The Smart 40 was floated about a week ago and has yet to put the sails up. So it’s getting exciting especially looking at the non-stop wind! The Smart 40 is a racer cruiser but perhaps the 3m daggerboards make it RACY-ER! 2 m head room and air-conditioning in the main hull are especially attractive! But i think it is the “cruise in the high teens and race in the high twenties” that really got me!

It was great to get my first glimpse of the Tabletop flying into Capetown and also really enjoy seeing hundreds of Mark 1 Golf’s and an airline that has a sense of humour! Kulula Airlines have very interesting paint jobs on all their aircraft!

Stay tuned as tomorrow is the day to lay eyes on the Smart 40…

About prosailing

In Southeast Asia a long time and all the while, sailing cats. But the cat love-affair began when I finished building my first catamaran at age 15... "never again". After building 2 more Formula 16 cats in Malaysia it's really 'never again'. Now we have a large fleet of high-tech speed machines including the Nacra 20 Carbon. Then we decided to spread our wings a little more and imported the Corsair Dash 750. Now we are well on the way to establishing a Coastal One Design Dash Class. As a test bed, we had 4 Dashes take part in the Neptune Regatta and now the plans are rolling out.
